This is the story of our family. Sometimes it is funny, sometimes sad. It is always crazy and rarely traditional. We manage to make it through the best that we can with love, understanding and humor.

Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover

We moved into a new house several months ago. This is a quiet middle class neighborhood and our neighbors on both sides have lived in their homes for over 30 years. So imagine how thrilled they were when we moved in. They flat out do not talk to Chris, I really don't even know if they make eye contact with him. Most people who meet him truly judge him by how he looks. I suppose because he is my husband I do not look at him like others do. I know who he really is not the person that he reveals to the world.

To the world he looks like an uneducated, southern, tattooed, rockabilly biker. Yes, most of these things are part of who he is. But scratch the surface and there is so much more.

Chris is a VMI graduate and served for 5 years as a commissioned officer in the Army. For the past 2 years he has served in the Army Reserve and is in the process of being medically retired due to injuries received in Iraq. He has life lasting injuries that we have to deal with everyday.

He works over 50 hours a week as a swing shift supervisor in the medical industry. Yes a white collar job! His hours are crazy and he usually doesn't come home until after midnight.

We literally could be like two ships passing but he does not allow that to happen. He gets up every morning with me and the girls. He helps get Sadie ready and takes both of the girls to school. He runs errands with me just to squeeze in as much time together as we can.

Chris is loving, encouraging, supportive and protective. He is giving and never selfish. He is without question one of the best men I have ever known.

He is also rough around the edges, he has an unnatural obsession with Elvis Presley, he has the sense of humor of a 10 year old boy and giggles every time someone says "boobies".

By no means do we appear to be a traditional family but when you get past the appearance maybe we are more so than you think. I challenge everyone to take a deeper look and maybe you will be surprised at what you find.
